Here you will find some of the Plucker projects I'm working on. This list is by-no-means exhaustive, and all of the projects listed here are in varying degrees of completion and complexity (with the Wikipedia project being far and away, the largest to date!).

Why are you doing these things?
"I believe in the Plucker project. I've supported it for 8-9 years now in code, CVS hosting, website hosting and other pieces where I could help. I want to be able to provide other people access to materials to read and learn from when they are WAY offline, with no power for miles and miles."

Updated News on Wikipedia in Plucker Format

More on Wikipedia in Plucker Format I’ve been working hard on some other projects (news announcement shortly), but I just wanted to write a quick note to say that the Plucker Wikipedia project is most-definitely NOT dead. I’ve scripted up the entire backend and have a repeatable way to produce the product.

The next steps are to output the right format for each target device. In the first pass, I’ll be supporting the following formats:

Online Dating Guide in Plucker format

October 2nd, 2007 desrod Posted in E-Books, Learning 3 Comments »

This is a bit of an odd creation, but I thought a lot of people would find this useful and fun.

I found a blog entry Little Red Rails about “Online Dating”, while looking for some other material. I browsed the content, and found that it was very thorough, and very well-researched. I decided to take the time to convert it into Plucker format.

A few years back, I was at the bar with some friends from work. This was at a time well into my online dating experience. By this point, I was sold on internet dating and thanks to growing dating experience, I was becoming very comfortable meeting new people. On this evening, I had a very brief conversation with the girl sitting next to me and asked her out as I was leaving. Based on how breifly we had spoken, I suspected I was committing social suicide. However, since I had several dates planned for later that week, I wasn’t too concerned. To my surprise, she agreed and we went out a few days later…it was a total disaster. I found I had nothing in common with the “bar girl”. The conversations were uncomfortable and she had an unhealthy obsession with all things death.

Kernel Hacker’s Guide to git in Plucker format

August 24th, 2007 desrod Posted in E-Books, Operating Systems, Programming No Comments »

This one is a bit short, but packed with useful information on how to use git to maintain a local tree that matches exactly what Linus and the other core Linux kernel developers are working on.

What is git?

Git is popular version control system designed to handle very large projects with speed and efficiency;
it is used mainly for various open source projects, most notably the Linux kernel.

Git falls in the category of distributed source code management tools, similar to e.g. GNU Arch or Monotone (or BitKeeper in the proprietary world). Every Git working directory is a full-fledged repository with full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access or a central server.

Another hand-retouched conversion from the original First Edition to Plucker format.. This was not simply a conversion of the raw HTML, this was updated in hundreds of places by hand to optimize it for use in Plucker’s viewer.

This book is a tutorial and reference for the Ruby programming language. Use Ruby, and you’ll write better code, be more productive, and enjoy programming more.
